X-Room Scholars Visit Dover Downs
Hotel and Casino
The X-Room Scholars from the
University of Delaware visited the Dover Downs Hotel and Casino on
Sunday April 13, 2008. Dover Downs Hotel and Casino is the only AAA
rated four-diamond hotel located in Dover, Delaware. In the fall of
2007 the hotel expanded and brought the total number of guestrooms
to about 500. In addition, the hotel added meeting space and a full
service luxury spa called Toppers Spa and Salon.
The X-Room Scholars were given a
tour by Jane Sullivan, a graduate student in Hospitality Information
Management at the University of Delaware. In addition, Miles Lederer,
the Director of Food and Beverage, provided the Scholars with an
overview of the property. They toured the new guestrooms and viewed
the new technological innovations that have been installed. These
included: a television built into the mirror in the bathroom that
becomes invisible when it is turned off. In addition, they have
incorporated a massage chair, automatic minibar and many other new
technologies that allow them to provide exceptional service in
today’s world.
The Dover Downs Hotel and Casino
is known for their classical harness horse racing and Nascar racing.
The Scholars toured many of their restaurants, one themed around
these events and various other dining options. Dover Downs Hotel &
Casino has a wide variety of dining options from deli to gourmet.
You can eat a great sandwich at The Deli or enjoy a filet mignon and
lobster in Michele’s Restaurant.
The X-Room Scholars toured the
magnificent spa: Toppers Spa and Salon inspired by Bali. The salon
incorporates many wood carvings, sculptures, and artifacts from
Bali. Toppers features eight various massage therapy rooms
including: private, couple’s suites,
skincare treatment rooms, women’s
and men’s bath areas, and
also separate hair and nail salons.
The X-Room Scholars were given the
privilege to tour the Dover Downs Hotel and Casino’s next expansion
expected to open to the public in June 2008. The expansion includes
a dancing entertainment venue, which will resemble a night club, it
appeals more to the younger generation. The new expansion will also
feature a bar with a fire and ice theme. The bar will have a very
young and energetic ambience to it. The new area of the property
will include a promenade featuring three different restaurants and
several shopping outlets. The expansion will also showcase an
atrium showing the four seasons. The ceiling, painted like a sky,
will give the guest the feeling of being outside. In addition, the
expansion will incorporate some of the newest and most technological
advanced slot machines. It will open to the public in June of
2008.
The X-Room Scholars concluded
their tour by experiencing the exceptional service and dining the
hotel offers to their guests: The Festival Buffet. The Festival
Buffet offers an array of delicious foods. We enjoyed our meal with
a spectacular view of the racetrack.
The X-Room Scholars felt very
privileged to be given the chance to explore and experience the
Dover Downs Hotel and Casino. Dover Downs is truly one the leaders
in the industry in providing exceptional service while incorporating
the industries latest technological advances. The Dover Downs Hotel
& Casino is a fabulous destination for entertainment, dining,
lodging and gambling.
