The HFTP Greater Philadelphia Chapter meeting was held at the
Courtyard Marriott at the University of Delaware on April 17, 2008.
The meeting was held by the UD HFPT student chapter and the X-Room
Scholars. At the meeting, students had the opportunity to sit down,
enjoy a few
hors d'oeuvres,
and chat with the greater Philadelphia members about various things
ranging from where everyone was from, who they worked for, and their
career paths, to different trends in the hospitality industry.
Conversations were very interesting and by the end of the meeting it
seemed as if most of the attendees were able to really get to know
each other.
After the hors d’oeuvres
were finished, the X-Room scholars gave tours of the X-Room. The
HFTP members were impressed. Bill Hickey, controller of the
Philadelphia Country Club, said of the X-Room, “I
think that it is a great idea for testing room amenities, getting
really useful feedback, and giving vendors an opportunity to
introduce their services to the industry and potential hotel
guests.”

Our meeting at the University of Delaware was one of our best
meetings, and our bus trip back to Pennsylvania was full of
conversation about what we had experienced.
The high point of our trip was our conversations with the students,
it was so refreshing. Seeing the hotel plus the X-Room tour lifted
our expectations on what a hotel could be.
I found the presentation on [going] “Green” very interesting and
enlightening.
Thank everyone for coming out to meet us.

Thank you for having us for the meeting. Our group
was small - but we all left very impressed!
The exceptional scholars at the University of Delaware certainly are
keeping up with the times. Their visionary X-Room is a sight to
behold. I was most impressed with their attention to keeping things
"Green" without sacrificing comfort and convenience. Definitely the
hotel room of the not so far future!
